Thanksgiving 2020

Oh, 2020, one might wish this year to be over.

But wait a second

I think that sometimes in the future, one might look back and say:

 “2020 was special”.

Special in many ways, and many amazing moments to be grateful for.

But wait a second

“Did you say amazing? The year of popular downs?”

Things slowed down, an opportunity for all to self-reflect

Things shut down, an opportunity to be essentialist

Lockdowns went to effect everywhere

Cities broke down in the form of violent protests

Borders closed down… we traveled less

Fear knocked us down, but we prevailed

Despite it allour spirits did not break down (entirely).

We masked our faces and smiles, but our hearts kept the hope alive

“Where’s the amazing part of all that?”

Just wait a second

The amazement was in the small things.

Toilet paper, the once just a rip, wipe and flush, became the world’s rarest commodity.

The gap between the have and have nots were counted in rolls of extra inventory.

Isn’t that amazing?

Community traffic vanished overnight. The type of cars we drove mattered less; they became centerpieces of our driveways and garages museums. Best of all, we beat the records from bed to desk; we ditch the jeans for PJ pants.

Zoom infiltrated our DNA and became the new norm for connecting with our families or participating in activities. We appreciated our families more, hugged them more, cuddled more, we even moved in with them… Oh, grandparents and the elderly suddenly became the most popular, protected, loved, and beloved species during this time of vulnerability.

This time wait a minute

A quick rundown of amazing things I’m grateful for as Thanksgiving 2020 approaches:

1.       We became experts in everything: global health, social justice, education, and politics.

2.      Good health is worth more than gold.

3.      Family time became a priceless treasure.

4.      No one’s rushing nowhere.

5.      Many of our hidden talents came out.

6.      We noticed more. Has nature always been this beautiful?

7.      Re-evaluating our priorities and values got on the agenda.

8.      Instead of relentlessly seeking peace, peace and stillness found us.

9.      We learned to live happily with less.

10.  You are amazing. I’m grateful for you. You made 2020 special. Thank you for being you.

Just wait one last  second

…of silence for those who didn’t make it through 2020.

2020: It’s not over yet and never to be forgotten!

  1. This is such a wonderful reflection on what 2020 has “brought” to us all. In the midst of the pain, the heartache, the numerous challenges, there are blessings … you are right, there are abundant blessings that we can be grateful for including the treasured family time, the previously overlooked experiences – in other words the little things finally count! Thank you for articulating ever so well. Have a blessed rest of the 2020 year and see you in 2021

    Happy Thanksgiving!
Indeed a paradoxical year but I am sure we, as a human race, needed to STOP and look around to choose direction and continue the journey with awareness ond purpose.
